American Fork

The city's new library that residents helped design, build, furnish and stock is now open. Library officials are celebrating with a grand opening week that features a special event each night at 7. A final grand opening celebration for the 34,000-square-foot facility is scheduled for Friday at 7 p.m.The $4.7 million, two-story library is four times larger than the former library and is expected to serve the city for several decades. It features a new technology room with 11 computers, a children's section, young adult section and adult section. The building, which was funded with voter-approved bonds, also has six meeting rooms.

Lehi

Lehi's city offices have started working summer hours. That means employees will work a four-day week, except Lehi's librarians and planning and zoning inspectors.

City offices will be open 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday. The offices will be closed Fridays.

The new schedule will continue until the end of October.

Orem

The Orem Senior Friendship Center, 50 N. 400 East, needs volunteers with computer background to help teach weekly classes.

The center provides a variety of classes on the computer to help senior citizens become familiar with its use in all stages from beginners to experts.

Payson

The use of an overlay zone to allow a four-plex will be considered tonight by the city planning commission.

Mike Howard requested the overlay zone to build the four-plex at 848 W. 450 South. Payson created the overlay zone to allow development on small vacant lots that fail to meet the requirements of current zoning ordinances.

The meeting in City Hall, 439 W. Utah, begins at 7 p.m.

Provo

The Utah County Child Abuse Council and Provo Towne Centre are committed to stopping child abuse and will join forces in the 12th annual No Hitter Day, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday.

Child-abuse advocates will be staffing booths throughout the Provo Towne Centre to educate shoppers about child-abuse prevention and volunteer opportunities.

Alternatives to violence and community resources will be emphasized.

Activities will include: finger painting, children's choirs, children's artwork displays, Harley Davidson Motorcycles & BACA, magicians, face painting, child-care resources, Provo and Orem police departments and more education and information resources. There will be prizes, treats, games, karaoke and entertainment for the whole family.

Spanish Fork

Utah Valley's annual Home and Garden show will be held April 28 and 29 at the Spanish Fork Fairgrounds. On Friday, the show will be from noon to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The show will include booths devoted to fireplaces, spas, computers, tools, entertainment and do-it-yourself projects. Landscaping ideas, gardening equipment, lawn care and sprinkler systems will also be available to preview and purchase at the show.

Other sections of the expo will feature food storage, nutrition, health care and virtually every aspect of home improvement -- from interior design and painting to kitchens and home security.

The show is arranged to be a series of mini-fairs offering a wide variety of fun and new ideas along with valuable consumer information with comparative pricing.

There will be more than 120 booths inside the exhibit with additional displays outside. The show will also offer the knowledge and skills of master gardeners to answer questions and provide solutions to gardening needs. These services are under the direction of the USU Extension Services.
