ST. LOUIS -- Financially struggling Trans World Airlines plans to change the way it sells vacation packages to leisure travelers.

Effective May 31, TWA said Friday it will suspend sales of its Getaway vacation packages in the United States. It will continue to sell packages through other channels, including its European Getaway operation and an enhanced Web site the airline plans to begin this summer."TWA is committed to the leisure market," said Don Casey, vice president of marketing. "As the market grows and evolves we are going to change with it, and we see a role for us as an airline operator and as a marketing partner with tour and package providers."

Getaway vacation packages will continue to be sold in the United States through the end of May. Reservation agents handling Getaway packages out of the company's reservations center in Norfolk, Va., will be reassigned to other duties at the same location.
