An article on diabetes in Sunday's paper left some readers with the idea that the use of an insulin pump would make finger-stick blood-sugar tests unnecessary. The insulin pump does deliver smaller, more calibrated doses of insulin, but a drop of blood is still taken regularly from the fingers to measure blood sugar levels.
