Until tax day, the Internal Revenue Service, the Utah Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program and the Utah Tax Commission are offering help for taxpayers and extended hours.
The Tax Commission/IRS extended hours will be on Saturdays, April 8 and 15, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Tax Commission Salt Lake office, 210 N. 1950 West, and at the IRS Social Hall Avenue office, 50 S. 200 East.Taxpayers may call the Tax Commission assistance line at 801-297-2200 or 1-800-662-4335 during the same hours.
Tuesdays and Wednesdays, both IRS and Tax Commission representatives will be available at the Tax Commission office.
Drive-up service for filers to drop off both federal and state returns is available until 6 p.m. on Monday, April 17, at the same address.
Also on tax deadline day, counter service and assistance for both state and federal returns is available from 9 a.m. through 6:30 p.m. at the Tax Commission.
Free help is available preparing simple income tax returns from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays through the VITA program, 210 N. 1950 West. On Monday, April 17, VITA help is available from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Electronic filing is free for VITA-prepared returns.
