Bob Schieffer, the host of CBS's "Face the Nation," will deliver the May 5 commencement address at the University of Utah, according to President Bernie Machen.
He will also receive an honorary degree.Schieffer is one of the network's most experienced Washington reporters and has hosted the Sunday morning talk show since 1991. He is one of a only a handful of correspondents to have worked all four major beats in the nation's capital -- the White House, the Pentagon, the State Department and Capitol Hill.
Machen also announced that the U. will award honorary degrees to four others:
Frank William Gay, former president and CEO of Summa Corp. and former director and chairman of the executive committee of Hughes Air Corp.
Ivan Edward Sutherland, former U. professor and co-founder of Evans and Sutherland Computer Corp. He is vice president of Sun Microsystems.
Emma Lou Thayne, Utah poet, teacher and lecturer.
James S. Jardine, prominent local attorney and former chairman of the U. Board of Trustees.
