HOUSTON: New CF Roger Cedeno was a late scratch Tuesday because of a sore right elbow. Richard Hidalgo moved from LF to CF, with Bill Spiers starting in LF.

PITTSBURGH: How things have changed dept.: Catcher Jason Kendall was the only opening night starter Tuesday who also started the 1997 opener, the Pirates' first under manager Gene Lamont. Kendall made his fifth consecutive opening day start.

COLORADO: Tuesday night's start against Atlanta was the first for Rolando Arrojo in the National League. He came to the Rockies in a winter trade from Tampa Bay.

PHILLIES--DIAMONDBACKS

PHILLIES: Curt Schilling will pitch on opening day, after all -- on Thursday for Class-A Clearwater. Manager Terry Francona says Schilling's rehabilitation from shoulder surgery is progressing well and is hopeful he will join the Phillies by late April.

DIAMONDBACKS: Closer Matt Mantei, on the 15-day disabled list with biceps tendinitis, will begin throwing again Friday, Saturday or Sunday.
