We want to take this opportunity to recognize Utah citizens for their generous outpouring of food donations for the Scouting for Food drive conducted March 25. At a time when division and negative news permeates our headlines, the recent food drive shines as an antithesis to that trend.

This one-day drive produced record collections, bringing in nearly 2 million pounds of food with a donated value in excess of $3.2 million. This is truly a remarkable event and strong evidence of the goodness of the people of our great state. What great character is cultivated by our Boy Scouts when they feel the privilege of service in a project where all their friends and neighbors participate. Each home that donated should take satisfaction in the knowledge that our collective efforts will provide thousands of meals each month for the next several months to those individuals and families throughout Utah who face the unfortunate indignity of hunger.

On behalf of the Boy Scouts of America, the Utah National Guard, our corporate sponsor Associated Foods and the Utah Food Bank, thank you for your generosity and goodwill. Utah, you deserve a big pat on the back.
