Walter Grant Evans died of a stroke on April 4, 2000 at the age of 85.
He was born to Judge Peter Carlos Evans and Martha Jane Read on February 23, 1915. He loved life, cherished his friends, and adored his family. Grant was elected the first senior class president of South High School. He graduated from the University of Utah after serving as the student body trea-surer, captain of the tennis team, and as a member of Owl and Key and Skull and Bones Honor Societies. Grant graduated from Stanford University in 1938, receiving his Masters of Business Administration. He was a veteran of World War II. He married Helen Barker on March 26, 1942 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He served as a national officer in the Sons of the Utah Pioneers. Grant was an active member of the LDS Church, serving in many callings. He enjoyed a long career in tennis circles as a patient teacher and a strong competitor.Survived by his wife, Helen Barker Evans; daughter, Kathleen Slagle; son, Scott (Joyce); brother, Frederick; sister, Shirley Kenyon; seven grandchildren and two great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister, Francelle Larsen.
Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Friday, April 7th at the Monument Park 10th Ward Chapel, 1930 S. 2100 East. Friends may call Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 S. Highland Dr. or at the Ward Chapel on Friday morning from 10:45-11:45 a.m. prior to services.
