Brigham YoungBASEBALL: Lefty Mike Albers recorded a complete game for New Mexico Saturday by throwing an 8-4 victory over BYU.

BYU's record is now 22-17 overall and 10-5 in the Mountain West Conference, while New Mexico is 23-13 and 12-2 for first place in the league.

The Cougars are next in action this Thursday when they host UNLV at 2 p.m. to start a three-game series.

Utah State

TRACK AND FIELD: USU juniors Shae Jones and James Parker both automatically qualified for the NCAA Championships at the Washington State--Utah State Dual meet in Pullman, Wash., Saturday.

SOFTBALL: For the third straight time in a Big West

Conference double-header, Utah State won its first game and lost the

nightcap as the Aggies defeated Sacramento State 1-0 before losing 5-0 on

the road Saturday. With the split, USU's record stands at 14-24 overall and 3-5 in Big

West Conference play, while Sacramento State is 17-17 and 2-9.

Utah

BASEBALL: The Utah baseball team (14-21, 5-9 MWC) surrendered a nine-run first inning to Air Force (17-17, 3-8 MWC), and the Falcons held on to even a three-game series, 19-17. The series concludes tomorrow at noon at Falcon field, before the Utes come home for a doubleheader against Southern Utah April 11.

Junior colleges

BASEBALL: The Bruins went extra innings in Game 1 to beat Utah Valley, 7-6, when pinch hitter Monte Ruttenbur delivered a double in the top of the 9th inning for what proved to be the winning run. Salt Lake's Evan Hoge went 4-5 and had 2 RBI. Pitcher Mike Moon (2-2) earned the victory. Game 2 went to Utah Valley, 2-1, but SLCC pitcher Jentry Beckstead (4-2) had a no-hitter going after 61/3 innings until back-to-back doubles and a pinch-hit single gave the Wolverines the win. Beckstead also recorded 12 strikeouts in the loss.
