Why the Mothers March for gun control? Have they become so brainwashed as to believe that gun control will solve violence in the schools or any other place?
For two centuries of our country's existence, we have respected the Second Amendment to the Constitution. But now, because of some tragic school shootings, we want to throw the baby out with the water. What does it take to convince people that guns don't kill people, people kill people? Guns will always be available, lawfully or otherwise. Until we commit to work on the real causes of violence, tragedies will continue to happen. Let's not throw away our constitutional rights by buying into the hype that gun control will prevent violence.
It made my heart sink when I saw, in a news report, hundreds of citizens voluntarily turning in their guns. The next thing we know the government will be confiscating our guns, and then we'll find ourselves in a totalitarian state with no means of self-protection.
Where is our leadership on this issue? What about the media, which give greater coverage for gun control? Who are our watchdogs? Should freedom of the press be controlled, as well as freedom of speech? It is by one step at a time that we lose the God-given liberties that were gained at such an enormous price by our forbears and preserved and protected by our brave men and women in two world wars.
By the way, the letters to the editor are at least five to one against gun control. This seems like a majority of the people, but does the majority count any more? It seems our freedoms are quickly slipping out of our control.
