PITTSBURGH -- Ken Griffey Jr. hit a three-run homer in the seventh inning after Cincinnati constantly squandered scoring chances before rallying to beat Pittsburgh.

The Reds stranded seven runners in the first six innings, leaving two on in the fifth and the bases loaded in the sixth, before Griffey hit a 1-0 pitch from Todd Ritchie (1-1) into the right-field seats with two on and two outs.Rob Bell (2-1) got the win and Scott Williamson pitched the final two innings for his first save.

CARDINALS 4, PHILLIES 3: At Philadelphia, Curt Schilling, starting his first game after offseason shoulder surgery, struck out eight over six innings but it wasn't enough as St. Louis beat Philadelphia.

Mark McGwire hit a two-run homer and Jim Edmonds had two RBIs, including a solo homer as St. Louis swept the series. The Cardinals finished April with 55 home runs, tying the 1947 New York Giants for most homers in any month by a National League team.

Darryl Kile (5-1) allowed seven hits and three runs in seven innings to improve to 14-3 lifetime against the Phillies. Mike James got the last five outs for his first save.

DIAMONDBACKS 6, CUBS 0: Randy Johnson became just the third pitcher in modern baseball history to win six games in April, striking out 11 and giving up just five hits over seven innings Sunday as the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Chicago Cubs 6-0.

The 1999 NL Cy Young winner also won his last three decisions last year, giving him a nine-game winning streak.

Johnson (6-0) has 130 games in his career with 10 or more strikeouts, second only to Nolan Ryan's 215 games. Vida Blue and Dave Stewart are the only other pitchers to win six in April.

BREWERS 4, ASTROS 3: At Milwaukee, Jeromy Burnitz's two-out double in the ninth scored Marquis Grissom and gave Milwaukee the win.

Grissom drew a one-out pinch-hit walk and after James Mouton flied out, Mark Loretta singled off Houston reliever Doug Henry (0-1).

Burnitz smacked Henry's second pitch to deep center. Roger Cedeno, playing exceptionally shallow, was a step too slow as Burnitz's hit bounced on the warning track, chasing Grissom home.

METS 14, ROCKIES 11: At Denver, Edgardo Alfonzo went 4-for-5 with four RBIs, and Todd Zeile capped a successful weekend at Coors Field with his first homer of the season.

Zeile, who came into the series hitting .254, went 8-for-15 with seven RBIs in three games to raise his average to .302. Alfonzo, Melvin Mora and Todd Pratt also homered for the Mets, who have won 13 of 17.

Tom Goodwin hit his first career grand slam off Mets reliever Dennis Cook to cap a six-run eighth that cut New York's lead to 11-9. Goodwin also had a sacrifice fly and finished with a career-high five RBIs.

EXPOS 4, GIANTS 3: At San Francisco, Pinch-hitter Rondell White hit a sacrifice fly in the ninth inning to lead Montreal.

The Giants lost for the seventh time in their first eight games at new Pacific Bell Park.

Andy Tracy and Peter Bergeron each singled with one out in the ninth off John Johnstone (2-2). White, who hadn't started the last three games because of a bone bruise in his left knee, hit a drive to deep left field that scored Tracy without a throw.

Scott Strickland (2-0) pitched a perfect eighth for the win, and Ugueth Urbina got three outs for his seventh save.

DODGERS 7, MARLINS 1: At Los Angeles, Kevin Brown allowed a run and three hits over seven innings and Shawn Green homered twice as Los Angeles completed a three-game sweep.

Gary Sheffield also homered and Eric Karros drove in three runs with a pair of singles as Florida dropped its fifth straight.

Brown (2-1), who helped lead the Marlins to the World Series in 1997, struck out seven, walked three and surrendered his only run in the seventh on Derrek Lee's fourth homer and third in two days.

Alex Fernandez (3-3) took the loss.
