May I offer a couple of comments on April 29, Page B3, "Utah Demos raise $75,000 for local candidates"?
How utterly comforting it must be for Utah Democrats to know that Edward Rendell, chairman of the Democratic National Committee, is going to report this fund-raising success to the president. President Clinton will turn handsprings. Why, with this kind of momentum, Clinton might even venture to the south rim of the Grand Canyon to throw in a kind word for lucky Demo hopefuls here in good ol' Utah.According to Rendell, votes for Demos in Congress will allow Americans to get national health care for "each child in America," better elementary and secondary schools and even "tougher" gun-control laws. Wow, just what the Constitution says that the federal government should be doing: organizing socialized medicine, undermining local control of schools and eroding Second Amendment rights. Makes me wish that the election were tomorrow so I could cast my vote to further trash what the Founding Fathers intended back in 1787.
Later Rendell chides George W. Bush as a candidate because he "lacks experience." Sure, and back in 1992, I presume that Rendell was dead set against electing Clinton for exactly the same reason, right? The way I see it, both Bush and Gore are equal when it comes to experience: Neither has yet served as president.
Icing on the cake was Rendell's comment that "Al Gore will make a very . . . fine president." Yes, but only if we want a continuation of Clinton/Gore politics.
