EFI Electronics, Square D celebrate merger in S.L.

EFI Electronics Corp. of Salt Lake City and Square D Co. of Illinois celebrated their merger Friday at EFI's headquarters at 1751 S. 4800 West.Square D is a leading supplier of electrical distribution, industrial control and automation products, systems and services. EFI will become a wholly owned subsidiary of Square D.

Job Corps recruiting youths for training, area programs

Job Corps is recruiting disadvantaged youths ages 16-24 for job training while either living at its campus or commuting.

A primarily residential program, Job Corps provides students with room, board and some spending money while they learn. Depending on vocational interest and availability, applicants are usually assigned to a center closest to their home.

Downtown winners to get awards at May 23 breakfast

The Downtown Alliance has announced the winners for its eighth annual Downtown Achievement Awards, which will be presented during a breakfast at the Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center, 138 W. Broadway, beginning at 8 a.m. Tuesday, May 23. Registration begins at 7:45 a.m.

The 1999 Achievement Award recipients and the categories of their awards are: Salt Lake Art Center (Arts); Broadway Lofts -- Westside Development (Urban Innovation & Design); Zephyr Club (Special Events); Utah Opera Company, for its season ad campaign; Utah Heritage Foundation, for its walking tour guide brochure and map (media); TRAX/Utah Transit Authority (civic & economic development); John Schumann Sr. (individual achievement); FFKR Architecture/Planning/Interior Design and Gastronomy Inc. (special achievement); and Hotel Monaco/Kimpton Hotel & Restaurant Group (restoration/beautification).

Panel on women, careers is today at Westminster

First Security Women's Financial Services is sponsoring a panel discussion titled "Wired Women: Dot.Com Career Challenges and Opportunities." The panel will be Tuesday, May 16, at 5:30 p.m. in the Gore Lecture Hall at Westminster College, 1840 S. 1300 East.

Panelists are Jolene Day, director of human resources at mycomputer.com; Josie Gay, co-founder and president/CEO at iNetz Media Group; M.C. Patton, manager of employee development at Campus Pipeline; and Linda Strasberg, content development manager at QuicKnowledge.com. Deseret News technology writer Lois Collins will moderate the discussion.
