SOFTBALL: Utah's Jenny Monson and Kristin Arbogast are the May 1 McLeodUSA Mountain West Conference Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week. The pair helped Utah move into first place in the league standings with sweeps over New Mexico (7-2, 4-0) and Colorado State (12-5, 14-5) and a non-conference win over Southern Utah (5-2).WOMEN'S TENNIS: The fifth-seeded Utes rebounded to shut out Wyoming for seventh place at the Mountain West Conference Tournament, 6-0.
Utah State
TRACK AND FIELD: Utah State track members Melissa Jensen and Shae Jones broke and tied the school records as they competed at the Oregon Invitational hosted by the University of Oregon in Eugene over the weekend. Jensen broke the school record and her personal record in the 800 meters with a time of two minutes, 08.85 seconds, beating the old record of 2:09.91 that she set last year, while Jones tied the school record she set earlier this year in the pole vault with a jump of 13 feet 9 inches, winning that competition.
Weber State
TRACK: Weber State's men's and women's outdoor track and field team had some excellent marks and times at the University of Oregon Invitational.
On the men's side, the Wildcats won five first-place titles, the most of any team in the meet.
Charles Clinger won the high jump and the triple jump (52 feet 4 inches). The triple jump mark is a new WSU school record and an NCAA meet provisional qualifying mark. Greg McKinley set a new WSU outdoor record in the 400 meters, winning the race in a time of 46.52. Joel Atwater captured the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a time of 8:45.24, which is an NCAA meet provisional qualifying time. Wes Davis won the 110-meter high hurdles in a time of 14.03.
On the women's side, Cynthia Losee ran a career best of 16:57.34 in the 5,000 meters. Angie Beck took second overall in the 10,000 meters in a time of 36:32.60.
