Well, it's that time of year again for high school graduations. You know, the usual, caps and gowns, tassels and diplomas and, of course, cowbells and airhorns. Students who show no decorum as they come through the graduation line to get their pictures taken are one thing, but the tradition of high school graduates' families getting up and ringing cowbells, blowing compressed airhorns and yelling "woof woof woof" as the Cleveland Browns fans would do, is getting old.
Of course, the people who act like that at a graduation probably don't even read the editorial page, much less the newspaper. So we shouldn't hold our breath that anything is likely to change.However, as you attend graduation with your families in the coming weeks, and you see pockets of this activity going on, try doing what I do. I just assume that this is the first person in their entire family organization that has ever graduated from high school.
