Cardinals 8, Padres 3
SAN DIEGO — Darryl Kile became the third 10-game winner in the majors, thanks in part to a three-run homer by batterymate Eli Marrero, and the St. Louis Cardinals beat the San Diego Padres for the fifth straight time, 8-3 Tuesday.
Kile (10-3) allowed three runs — two earned — and nine hits in seven innings. He already has two more wins than last year, when he was 8-13 in his second season in Colorado.
Marrero snapped a 1-1 tie with his fifth homer in the fourth inning, and J.D. Drew added a two-run shot in the fifth, his 10th.
PIRATES 7, BRAVES 6, 10 INNINGS: At Pittsburgh, Wil Cordero led off the bottom of the 10th inning with his 10th homer as the Pirates rallied from a three-run ninth-inning deficit.
CUBS 4, METS 3: At Chicago, Cubs pinch-runner Damon Buford scored the game-winner from second on a throwing error by shortstop Kurt Abbott in the eighth inning.
PHILLIES 4, MARLINS 3: At Philadelphia, Scott Rolen's two-run single broke a tie and Ron Gant homered and drove in two runs as the Phillies spoiled Chuck Smith's major league debut.
ASTROS 6, ROCKIES 3: At Denver, Ken Caminiti homered and drove in three runs, and Shane Reynolds won for the first time in six starts for Houston.
General manager Gerry Hunsicker held a 25-minute pregame meeting in the wake of Sunday's batting-practice scuffle between rookie Mitch Meluskey and Matt Mieske, and the Astros seemed to respond.
DODGERS 6, DIAMONDBACKS 1: At Los Angeles, Eric Karros set a Los Angeles record with his 229th home run, and Chan Ho Park pitched a five-hitter.
EXPOS 9, BREWERS 4: At Milwaukee, Vladimir Guerrero's two-run single keyed a seven-run third inning for Montreal in a game delayed 2 hours, 12 minutes at the start.
GIANTS 3, REDS 2: At San Francisco, Cincinnati's Aaron Boone was hospitalized after being struck in the face by a seventh-inning fastball from Russ Ortiz, and San Francisco rallied for a ninth-inning victory.
