The Church Historical Department, located in the new Church Office Building, offers a wide variety of services to patrons, according to the June 21, 1975, issue of the Church News. The two main areas available to the public are located in the east wing of the new building, with the Church library on the main floor and the archives search room on the second floor.

"Of interest to all ward and stake officers and workers is the model meetinghouse library, headed by Jack Pickerell," the article reported. "The model library is located on the main floor and is constructed in accordance with the standard plan developed by the Church Building division and the Church Meetinghouse Library Committee.

"The area displays items listed in the instructional materials catalog which are recommended for use in current courses of study. The facility is especially helpful to meetinghouse library personnel and priesthood leaders who are attempting to envision how their libraries should be set up."

Church curator Florence Jacobsen and her aides also hung oil paintings of those called and ordained as apostles from the beginning of the Church. "[The paintings] are hung in order of the date of [the apostles'] ordinations. We are missing some of the earlier ones.

"And, of course, some of the recent brethren have not had oils done yet," Sister Jacobsen said.
