Rockies 17, Giants 13
Jeff Cirillo couldn't help but jump for joy.
Cirillo had his first three-homer game since he started playing as a child as the Colorado Rockies outslugged the San Francisco Giants 17-13 Wednesday night.
"I never had three home runs," Cirillo said. "Never, not even in Little League."
The third baseman, acquired in a trade with Milwaukee during the offseason, also doubled, drove in six runs and scored five more as the Rockies rallied from deficits of 8-1 and 11-5.
Cirillo couldn't help but show his excitement.
"I usually never show that kind of emotion out there," Cirillo said. "No disrespect to the Giants at all. I was excited and it was a big hit for us and because what we came back from."
Cirillo hit a two-run shot in the third, a solo drive in the fifth and another two-run homer in the seventh.
"I don't think Jeff is ever going to have deep power," Colorado manager Buddy Bell said. "I think Jeff will always have line drive-type power and is going to get doubles. He is going to have games like this every once in a while."
Neifi Perez drove in four runs and Jeffrey Hammonds had four hits for the Rockies.
METS 6, MARLINS 5: New York won its seventh straight game as Mark Johnson's two-run single capped a five-run sixth inning against visiting Florida.
Florida's Brad Penny (4-7) pitched through trouble in the first five innings, but lost his control in the sixth.
BRAVES 7, EXPOS 4: Terry Mulholland kept up his mastery of Montreal, and Brian Jordan hit a pair of RBI singles to lead Atlanta to a road victory.
Mulholland (8-6) improved to 17-4 lifetime against the Expos. Kerry Ligtenberg got two outs for his fifth save.
REDS 7, CARDINALS 3: Benito Santiago's first homer in nearly a month put Cincinnati ahead, and Sean Casey doubled with the bases loaded as Cincinnati won.
CUBS 5, PIRATES 4: Chicago rallied from a three-run deficit behind Jon Lieber's pitching and Juan Nieves' two-run homer to win at Pittsburgh. Lieber (6-5) ended the Cubs' season-long five-game losing streak and his own five-game streak of winless starts.
DIAMONDBACKS 6, ASTROS 2: Brian Anderson had his second straight strong outing, and Jose Lima (1-12) set a Houston record with his 12th consecutive loss as Arizona beat the visiting Astros.
PHILLIES 9, BREWERS 7: Ron Gant's second homer of the game capped a three-run eighth inning, lifting Philadelphia over visiting Milwaukee.
DODGERS 5, PADRES 4: Jim Leyritz singled home the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, and Todd Hollandsworth and Eric Karros hit two-run homers as Los Angeles beat San Diego.
