OGDEN (AP) — The Ogden Civil Service Commission has scheduled separate appeal hearings for the three officers fired for allegedly accepting favors from Ogden Auto Body in return for referring traffic accident towing jobs to the company.
The hearing for Kelly Zaugg was set for Aug. 14-17; followed by Sgt. Tony Huemiller's hearing Sept. 6-8; and Ron VanBeekum's on Oct. 17-19.
Investigations are continuing into the police department's relationship with Ogden Auto Body.
One is conducted by the Weber County Attorney's Office assisted by the Utah Attorney General's Office. The other is the department's own internal probe, which brought the firings. To date no other officers have been suspended or fired.
Under department policy, wreckers are supposed to be dispatched from a rotation list. Officers are not to make requests or call the companies themselves.
The fired officers contend they are scapegoats for an issue that involves numerous members of the department.
