BRIAN HEAD, Iron County — The two Las Vegas Boy Scouts missing since late Tuesday afternoon were found Wednesday around noon, ending a 12-hour search.
At 12:18 p.m. Wednesday, two Iron County correctional volunteers on horses discovered the lost Scouts, approximately 5-6 miles north and east of where they were believed to have been separated from their troop, which had been at the 1,200-acre Thunder Ridge Scout Camp since Sunday.
The Scouts, 12 and 13, were said to be in good condition, other than one who received some scrapes in a fall, according to Iron County Sheriff David "Dude" Benson.
Rescue crews had increased to 25 workers from the Iron County Sheriff's Office and Iron County Search and Rescue after learning one Scout had a health problem that required frequent medication. That changed the scope and nature of the search, Benson said.
The boys had been separated for nearly 21 hours, since 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
"Boys will be boys. They had to check out that butterfly and see if that was a bear track and not a deer track," Benson said. He admitted he was pleased with finding the Scouts as soon as they did.
"We'll take them however we can get them. We just appreciate the search and rescue for their efforts. They're good at what they do."
