Economics graduate students at the University of Utah will have a chance to apply for a new fellowship this year. Siegfried and Ellen Karsten have matched the Marriner S. Eccles Fellowship in Political Economy with an endowment of $268,000.

The Howard-Karsten Fellowship in Economics is named after Siegfried Karsten, who served as a visiting associate professor.

It grants students a large amount of money so the recipient may focus solely on research. Students will receive a scholarship for tuition and an additional amount to live on.

The endowment will also provide funds for the Howard-Karsten Undergraduate Scholarship, which is to be given to an economics major.
