Lowe's Companies, the world's second largest home improvement retailer, will build a new warehouse superstore on a 13-acre site in West Valley City on the corner of 5600 West and 4100 South. Construction will start this month.

Lowe's made the announcement as it changes the name on existing Eagle Hardware & Garden stores in Murray, Sandy, Orem and Layton. Lowe's bought Eagle, based in Renton, Wash., and its 32 stores in a $1 billion merger one year ago.

The newest Lowe's facility will be a 135,000 square foot retail outlet with an additional 28,000 square foot lawn and garden center. The store will stock more than 40,000 items and will have 400,000 more available through special orders.

The new store will cost $15 million and will employ between 175-200 people.

Lowe's, based in Wilkesboro, N.C., had 465 stores in 26 states at the time the merger with Eagle was announced.
