PROVO — Pulitzer Inc., which owns Provo's Daily Herald, announced Friday it has bought a chain of weekly newspapers in north Utah County.

Terms of Pulitzer's agreement with New Utah! publications were not disclosed.

"We are excited about this transaction with the New Utah! publications, which are deeply established and very well operated and provide a strong voice in the communities they serve," said Kirk Parkinson, president and publisher of The Daily Herald.

"The partnership will benefit the weeklies by enabling us to strengthen regional content and production, and will also provide economies," he said.

The purchase includes weekly papers distributed in American Fork, Pleasant Grove, Lehi, Lindon, Alpine and Highland. Pulitzer also will take over a shoppers' guide and a Web site www.newutah.com.

The St. Louis Dispatch and Arizona Star in Tucson, Ariz., are the largest of the 14 papers owned by Pulitzer Inc., which is the successor to the company originally founded by Joseph Pulitzer in 1878.
