NEW YORK (AP) — A 25-year-old woman was hit in the head with a 5-pound concrete block by a man who tried unsuccessfully to snatch her purse then ran away, police said.
Tiffany Goldberg suffered a fractured skull, two chipped teeth, cuts and bruises when she fell to the pavement after she was attacked Sunday while walking from church to a subway station.
The chunk of concrete, believed to be a piece of sidewalk, was found nearby.
Goldberg was hospitalized Monday morning in stable condition. Hospital officials said there was no apparent sign of neurological damage and she was able to speak by telephone to her father in Madison, Wis.
