Lightning provides a spectacular show across the Salt Lake Valley Sunday night. Monsoon moisture from southern climes combined with high temperatures to produce about 1/4 to 1/2 inch of rain as well as "quite a light show" — especially in parts of Tooele, Salt Lake and Davis counties, said Bill Alder, a meteorologist with the Salt Lake office of the National Weather Service. The rain also offered welcome relief to firefighters battling blazes in various parts of the region. See story on B2.
