PROVO — Police say an 18-year-old man assaulted a teenager late Friday night, and then stole the boy's car.

An 18-year-old Salt Lake man and an unidentified person were arguing with a group of teens at about midnight Friday, said Provo Police Sgt. Chris Orndorff.

The group of teens entered a car and were chased by the men to the 1400 West block on 1000 North, where the 18-year-old man reportedly assaulted the 16-year-old driver.

Police say the man then stole the juvenile's car, according to Orndorff. After he was located by police officers, the man abandoned the stolen vehicle near 500 West and 300 South in Provo.

Officers found him on the roof of a nearby home and arrested him for investigation of assault, vehicle theft, evading arrest, driving under the influence and several misdemeanor violations. He was booked Saturday at the Utah County Jail and is being held on $10,435 bond.

An unidentified person who helped the man steal the car was not found, police said.
