ST. GEORGE — Police early Tuesday were still searching for Charles "Chic" Clayton, a former mayor of Midvale who has been missing since July 2.

"We have had several sightings, but none that have panned out," said St. George Police Sgt. Gary Jorgensen. "He's just a very familiar-looking elderly gentleman."

Investigators believe he walked away from the St. George Beehive Home, according to a written police statement. He suffers from dementia and authorities say he may be attempting to travel to the Wasatch Front area, where he once served as Midvale mayor.

Officers are continuing their search by knocking on doors and searching the desert on four wheelers in and around the area where Clayton turned up missing, Jorgensen said.

Clayton, 78, is 6-foot-1, 180 pounds, Caucasian, with balding grey hair and blue eyes. He was last seen wearing a dark blue suit, white shirt and glasses.

St. George police are asking anyone with information to contact their local police department.
