NEPHI — Juab County has adopted new guidelines for dispatching fire crews to wildland fires in unincorporated areas.

Fire Marshal Greg Newton will respond to all reported fires and make a determination as to which fire crews, if any, will be dispatched. The county hopes to reduce firefighting costs through this process.

Such fires include, but are not limited to, reports of grass or brush fires, fires in freeway medians or barrow pits, and along railroad rights-of-way.

Officials say this approach will allow the fire marshal to deal with minor incidents that do not require response from a fire department.
