VERNAL-- Dolores Wardle Stephenson, 86, our beloved mother and grandmother, who will be missed by us all, passed away Sunday, July 9, 2000.
She was born March 5, 1914 in Vernal, Utah to Heber George and Susanna Deans Wardle, the seventh of ten chil-dren. She grew up on the family farm in the Glines area of the valley. The family had some wonderful times,
even though life during that era was difficult. She was unable to finish high school, but later when her children were adults she finished her high school education and received a diploma. She married Melvin Jess Burke on October 16, 1933, and they
had two sons and three daughters.
She later married Glen Albert Stephenson on March 5, 1971; he had two daughters and one son. Glen and Dolores were sealed in the Ogden LDS Temple July 9, 1977. They enjoyed love and companionship for many years. They loved the outdoors, traveling together and working in
their beautiful flowers and garden. They especially enjoyed the Christmas Holiday season each year by decorating their home and yard with lights. One of Dolores' passions and joys, and where she excelled, was cake decorating for many weddings in the Uintah Basin and for the marriages of many of her grandchildren.
Dolores was a member of the LDS Church and served in many callings throughout her life. She and Glen loved the Gospel and they served together for six years as officiators at the Provo Temple.
She is survived by her children: Darius (Margie) Burke,
Englewood, Colorado; Larry (Phyllis) Burke, Kaysville, Utah; Deleen Green,
Moses Lake, Washington; LaNeita Young,
Bountiful, Utah; Kathy Kennemer,
Farmington, New Mexico; stepchildren: Janice (Hal) Merkley, Idaho Falls, Idaho; and Carol (Tom) Casey, Duchesne, Utah; 30 grandchildren, 62 great-grandchildren, and three great great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Donnell Wardle and Clifford Wardle; and one sister, Norma Simper; all of Vernal.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; stepson Ronald Stephensen; brothers Dean, Earl, Lowell, Lawrence and Boyd; and sister Marguerite Curtis.
The family would like to sincerely
thank the entire Arcadia unit staff of the Ogden Manor Care Center for their compassion and loving care of our mother.
