Trappers 8, Buzz 4

EDMONTON — First baseman Shawn Wooten was 4-for-4 with a double and three runs scored as the Edmonton Trappers defeated the Salt Lake Buzz 8-4 on Thursday night.

The win moves the third-place Trappers to within 8.5 games of the North-Division leading Buzz.

Edmonton's Mike Stoner grounded into a double play to score Juan Tolentino in the bottom of the first.

The Buzz tied the game in the second after Brian Buchanan smashed a long home run off Trapper starter Ramon Ortiz (5-3).

Salt Lake took the lead in the fourth after Mario Valdez drove home Todd Walker with a double, and Torii Hunter followed with an RBI double to score Valdez.

Casey Blake's RBI single rounded out the scoring in the frame.

Keith Johnson's RBI single in the bottom of the fourth brought the Trappers to within two runs of the Buzz and Scott Morgan made it a one-run game with an RBI single of his own.

With two out in the bottom of the sixth, Johnson's two-run home run to left field put the Trappers ahead to stay.

Edmonton added three runs in the eighth off reliever Jack Cressend.
