TAYLORSVILLE — A house sustained an estimated $50,000 in damage from a fire in a basement bedroom.

"The fire was contained in (that) one bedroom but there was a lot of smoke and water damage," said Capt. Clint Peterson, Salt Lake County fire.

Fire trucks were dispatched at about 8:45 p.m. and while waiting for crews to arrive at the home, 1331 W. 4505 South, the family tried to extinguish the blaze with a garden hose.

"When we pulled up, it was cooking real good," Petersen said.

About 17 firefighters had the fire out in about 10 minutes, Peterson said.
