PARK VALLEY, Box Elder County — A range fire in the Hogup Mountains west of the Great Salt Lake was contained Thursday afternoon.

In all, the fire has consumed 13,000 acres, mainly juniper, pinon, grass and sagebrush, according to information released by the Bureau of Land Management Thursday night. More than 140 firefighters are still working on the fire and expect to have it fully controlled by tomorrow, said Jim Springer of the Salt Lake Interagency Fire Center.

"This is the biggest fire of its kind we've seen so far this year," Springer said.

The BLM determined lightning as the fire's cause. It started at about 11 a.m. Wednesday.

The fire was far away from homes, and there were no injuries, except a Box Elder County engine that rolled on the way to the fire. The accident is under investigation.
