The U.S. Department of Labor will be conducting a major educational effort in Utah over the next four weeks targeted at how the Fair Labor Standards Act applies to residential health care facilities.

The Wage and Hour Salt Lake City district office has started mailing industry fact sheets to group homes throughout Utah. Through the middle of August, Wage and Hour investigators will make follow-up calls to those group home owners to explain how the FLSA applies to their business, discuss the most common violations found in the industry, go through a compliance checklist and answer questions.

"We are confident that this educational effort will improve the 57 percent compliance rate in this industry," said Dean A. Campbell, district director.
