SAN DIEGO — Seattle shortstop Alex Rodriguez was placed on the 15-day disabled list Friday with a sprained right knee.
Rodriguez, 24, sustained the injury in a collision July 7 with Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Alex Cora as Rodriguez was trying to break up a double play.
The injury will not require surgery, Mariners spokesman Tim Hevly said.
Rodriguez was placed on the DL retroactive to July 8, meaning he would be eligible to come off as early as July 23.
The grade 2 sprain of Rodriguez's medial collateral ligament — located on the inside of his right knee — was discovered in tests at a San Diego hospital.
