Buzz 2, Trappers 1

EDMONTON, Alberta — Mike Romano allowed one run in 7 2/3 innings as the Salt Lake Buzz defeated the Edmonton Trappers 2-1 in a Pioneer League game Saturday night.

Romano (3-1) allowed seven hits and one walk while striking out four.

Edmonton starter Matt Wise (8-5) went eight innings, allowing two runs — one earned — on six hits and one walk. He struck out four.

Salt Lake opened the scoring in the second inning. With two out, Brian Buchanan walked. A.J. Pierzynski then hit a single into center field. Trappers outfielder Juan Tolentino slid in an attempt to catch the ball, which bounded past him. Buchanan scored all the way from first base on the play.

The Buzz added another run in the eighth. John Barnes led off with a single up the middle and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Todd Walker. Barnes scored when Tolentino dropped a fly ball hit by Mario Valdez.
