Salt Lake police spent a great part of Sunday looking for a woman they had barely taken into custody before she slipped away.

The 47-year-old woman, who goes by several aliases and has a number of warrants under the many names, was arrested at 2:30 p.m. on charges of shoplifting at a Fred Meyer, said Lt. Terry Morgan.

A Salt Lake City officer took the woman to Salt Lake Regional Medical Center before taking her to jail.

"She had a (lesion) on her thigh," Morgan said.

The injury was on her upper thigh, and the male officer had to wait outside the woman's examination room, according to Morgan. "There was a second door nobody bothered to tell the officer about," Morgan said. "She slipped out."

Police searched for hours for the woman, whom they eventually found hiding about a block away under a porch.

The woman was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail Sunday for investigation of retail theft, concealing identity, escaping from lawful custody and several outstanding warrants. She remained in custody Monday morning.
