ST. GEORGE/MIDVALE -- Charles Robert "Chick" Clayton, our loving father, and grandfather, passed away July 14, 2000.
Born June 26, 1922 to Aaron and Pearl Clayton, Draper, UT. He married Margaret L. McAvoy in Seattle, Washington Oct. 27, 1945; marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
Chick lived in Midvale for over 50 years while helping raise his eight child-ren. Chick, a Navy Veteran of World War II, was active in his church, community, and politics. He served as Midvale City Councilman for two terms and served as the Mayor of Midvale from 1979 through 1983. One of his greatest achievements while serving as Mayor was to plan and construct the Midvale Senior Citizens Center, which has been enjoyed by many senior Midvale residents. Chick actively participated in various civic organizations, including the Rotary Club and Salt Lake County Mosquito Abatement. Chick also owned and managed various businesses in Midvale.
Chick is predeceased by his wife, Margaret; daughter, Stacie; parents; one brother; and one sister. He is survived by seven children, Loretta (Dan) Benson, Fullerton, CA; Terri (Wayne) Christensen, Bountiful; Jay Dee (Jolie Gaston) Clayton, Henderson, NV; Monty Clayton, Las Vegas, NV; Kelly (Claudia) Clayton, St. George; Riley (Rebbel) Clayton, Henderson, NV; Stephanie (Mike) Bixler, Fresno, CA; three brothers, Phillip (Elaine) Clayton, Ben (Evelyn) Clayton, Bill (Wanda) Clayton, all of Salt Lake County; 21 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wed. July 19, at the Midvale LDS 8th Ward chapel, 8350 S. Jackson St. (approx. 350 W.). Friends may call at the church 9:30-10:45 a.m. Interment, Larkin Sunset Gardens, Sandy, UT following the funeral. Directors, Spilsbury & Beard Mortuary, St. George. 435-673-2454
