Addressing the NAACP, George W. Bush avoided the heavy lifting of raising their expectations and received a sitting ovation.

Bush looked a little tired that morning. He may have been up all night begging Colin Powell to run with him.

The following day, Al Gore appeared before the group and came on like James Brown singing "I Feel Good."

The Democrats' message to African-Americans is "keep hope alive." The Republicans' message is "Keep hoping."
