Art in Bloom to combine art, music

This year's Art in Bloom, the biannual fund-raising event for the Utah Museum of Fine Arts, will look and sound a little different.

Due to the upcoming move to the new art museum in the spring of 2001, the event will combine its customary floral interpretations of selected paintings from the UMFA and the Salt Lake County art collection with a concert by the Utah Symphony and special guest Maureen McGovern.

The evening of art and music will be Friday, July 14, at Abravanel Hall and will begin at 6:30 with a preview of the floral arrangements. The concert will start at 7:30 p.m. and feature McGovern. Following the concert, a Champagne Fëte and silent auction of the arrangements will be held in the reception room.

Art in Bloom with the Utah Symphony is a major fund-raiser for the UMFA's educational programs, which reach more than 10,000 children through such groups as PARTners, the Teacher Resource Center and the Teacher in Service program. Funds are also used for adult-educational workshops.

In order to benefit the UMFA, tickets ($125) must be purchased by July 7. For reservations and information, call Bill Balken at 801-581-3123 or Ann Wilson at 801-278-0473.
