MOAB — Search and rescue crews from the Utah Wing of the Civil Air Patrol and the Grand County Sheriff's Office are conducting an extensive search for a missing airplane carrying two passengers.

The 1973 Gumman Travel Aircraft took off from the Canyonlands Airfield at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday and has since been reported missing, a Utah CAP press release stated. The names or other identifying characteristics of the two missing occupants were not released.

Crews conducted grid searches from the airfield outward all day Thursday but didn't discover any sign of the missing craft. Rescue crews resumed the search on Friday, said CAP spokeswoman Joanne Searcy.
