Like he did at last month's U.S. Open, Draper's Mike Weir followed up a poor first round with a strong second round to make the cut at the British Open at the Old Course in St. Andrews, Scotland.
Weir fired a 4-under-par 68 Friday, which coupled with his opening-round 75, put him at 143, one under the cut, which came at 144. Weir was to tee off in the third round at 4 a.m. MDT with Japan's Tsuyoshi Yoneyama.
At the U.S. Women's Open in Illinois, Utah amateur Carrie Summerhays didn't fare so well. The daughter of Senior Tour regular Bruce Summerhays, who was caddying for her this week, shot an 80 Friday and missed the cut with a 157 total.
