CLEARFIELD-- Devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Roland Demar Choate, age 84, passed away peacefully into the waiting arms of loved ones, Friday July 21, 2000.

Born Dec. 11, 1915 in Lewiston, UT, a son of Calvin C. and Nathalia Marie Gyllenskog Choate. Married Erma Marie Nielson March 31, 1939 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She passed away in 1941. Married Merle Wood March 10, 1943 in the Salt Lake Temple. She passed away Dec. 18, 1999.

Demar was reared and educated in Cache Valley, UT and resided in Clearfield, UT since 1944. He worked at Hill Air Force Base and retired after 33 years of service. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army.

He was a high priest in the Clearfield LDS 11th Ward, where he served as stake librarian, scout master, Young Mens leader and elders quorum president. He served an LDS mission to Sweden, 1934 - 1937. He later served an LDS mission to Sweden with his wife Merle, 1981 - 1982.

He will be remembered for his devotion to his family. He enjoyed sharing stories, gardening, golfing, fishing, hunting, and traveling with the Good Sams.

Surviving is one daughter, Erma (Melvin) Campbell, Ogden, UT; four sons, Dee (Carolyn) Choate, Riverdale, UT; Lee (Gayleen) Choate, St. George; Dan Choate, Moab, UT; Kimbal (Anneta) Choate, Roy, UT; 22 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one brother, Robert (Vera) Choate, Bountiful, UT. Preceded in death by his parents; brother, Eugene Choate; wife, Erma; their infant son, Niels Choate; wife, Merle; and daughter-in-law, Patti Choate.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wed., July 26, at the Clearfield Utah LDS Stake Center, 935 S. State. Friends and family may call 6-8 p.m. Tues. at Lindquist's Clearfield Mortuary, 1050 S. State and 9:30-10:45 a.m. at the church. Interment, Salt Lake Cemetery, 2:30 p.m.
