Angels 6, Rangers 5

ARLINGTON, Texas — The Texas Rangers lost star catcher Ivan Rodriguez for the rest of the season because of a broken right thumb, then they blew a three-run lead in the ninth inning and fell in the 12th, 6-5, to the Anaheim Angels on Monday night.

On a frustrating night for the Rangers, they thought they had won in the 10th on a balk. But with Texas already celebrating, the call was reversed.

Rodriguez, the reigning AL MVP, was injured in the first inning when his thumb hit Mo Vaughn's bat on a swinging third strike as he threw to second base on Kevin Stocker's steal attempt. Stocker was called out by home plate umpire Gerry Davis on batter's interference.

YANKEES 4, ORIOLES 3: At Baltimore, Roger Clemens won his fifth straight start as the New York Yankees ruined an impressive major league debut by Baltimore Orioles left-hander John Parrish.

Glenallen Hill homered in his initial at-bat with the Yankees, who have won seven of 10. Clemens (9-6) gave up three runs, six hits and a season-high tying five walks in six innings with six strikeouts.

TWINS 4, RED SOX 2: At Boston, Eric Milton allowed four hits in eight shutout innings as Minnesota beat Boston for the first time in eight games this season.

DEVIL RAYS 4, TIGERS 2: At Detroit, Greg Vaughn had three hits, including a two-run single for Tampa Bay, which won for only the third time in 10 games.

WHITE SOX 7, ROYALS 6: At Chicago, Magglio Ordonez hit a go-ahead three-run home run, and Carlos Lee drove in three runs for Chicago.

MARINERS 6, ATHLETICS 4: At Seattle, Edgar Martinez hit his 25th home run, leading Jamie Moyer and the Seattle Mariners over the Oakland Athletics.
