PAYSON — Search and rescue teams from the Utah County Sheriff's Office were to resume Tuesday the search for a 15-year-old boy who is believed to have drowned at about 1 p.m. Monday.

Utah County Sheriff's Lt. Dave Bennett said Jasper Brazelton, Spanish Fork, was playing on rubber raft with his sister about 40 yards from the west shore at Payson Lake when he slipped under.

"He jumped off the raft, came up and yelled for help," Bennett said. "His sister stuck a paddle out to him and he pulled it out of her hands and went down with the paddle."

Bennett said many bystanders on the beach jumped in to help when they heard cries for help.

"Some of the observers really put a lot of effort into diving in trying to help him," he said. He added that divers and search dogs would be at the lake Tuesday looking for the boy.

This is the second drowning at Payson Lake in two months. Police said an 18-year-old man died in June while trying to swim across the small lake.
