PAYSON — Murky water in Payson Lake is hampering the search for a 15-year-old boy who is believed to have drowned Monday.

Thick vegetation on the bottom of the lake "makes it difficult for the searchers to get through to search for the victim," said Utah County Sheriff Sgt. Tom Hodgson.

Divers and search teams with rescue dogs have looked for the body of Spanish Fork's Jasper Brazelton since 1:20 p.m. Monday.

Brazelton was playing with his sister on a rubber raft about 40 yards from the west shore before he slipped under the water. The boy surfaced once, cried for help and grabbed a paddle his sister was holding.

He yanked the oar out of her hands and disappeared under the water, police said.

Despite the efforts of witnesses and his family, the boy was not found.

"Family members and divers are back in the water this morning and will be there throughout the day," Hodgson said.
