SHARE Death toll rises to 3 in Cache bus-car crash

A Smithfield, Cache County, accident has claimed the life of another person, bringing the total number of deaths to three, with numerous others remaining hospitalized Friday evening.

Killed were:

Loren Archibald, 50, Trenton, Cache County.

Melanie Kaye Farmer, 24, Pocatello.

Devon Farmer, 2, Pocatello.

The accident occurred at 8:23 a.m. Friday after a small bus carrying adults with mental disabilities collided with a car on US-91, Utah Highway Patrol spokesman Chris Kramer said. He said the bus was traveling south, drifted into the northbound lane and collided head-on with the car.

Melanie Farmer and Devon Farmer died at the scene, Kramer said. Archibald died at 11:45 a.m. after being transported to Logan Regional Hospital.

Mya Kaye Farmer, 6 months, remained in extremely critical condition Friday afternoon at Primary Children's Medical Center. The driver of the bus, Steven Day remained in satisfactory condition at Logan Regional Hospital.

Bus passengers Steven Day, Ann Westover, Melisa Smith and Dale Jenkins were all treated and released from Logan Regional Hospital Friday

The driver of the car, Dewayne Farmer, was transferred by medical helicopter to LDS Hospital where he was in critical condition Friday night.

Kramer said no citations have been issued pending an investigation.
