Editor's note: To commemorate the 150th year of continuous publication, The Deseret News is reprinting some of the letters to the editor published through the years.

What about these "truth drugs" that we read about in some of the magazines? An article said that a dose of one of these medicines rendered a person, for the time being, incapable of lying.

It is said they are being used for psychological studies, and also in experiments on criminals. They are reported to be quite harmless.

Why not pass a law requiring a politician to take a dose of "truth drug" before he gets up to make a speech?

Then, in addition to being harmless, these things would be useful, and we could put "congressional immunity" in the same category with smallpox — eliminated by preventive medicine.
