The National Federation for the Blind has presented its $7,000 scholarship to Cheralyn Braithwaite, Centerville, who will begin a graduate program in special education at the University of Utah.
The federation chose Braithwaite as one of 30 outstanding blind students in the nation.
"These students are the hope of the nation's blind," said Marc Maurer, federation president. "They have demonstrated excellence in fields as challenging as civil and electrical engineering, physical therapy, physics and law. They are living proof of our contention that the blind can compete in terms of equality with the sighted, and we are very proud of them."
