PHILADELPHIA — Following are highlights of events scheduled Monday evening at the Republican National Convention. Monday's theme is "Opportunity With a Purpose: Leave No Child Behind."
Between 6 and 8 p.m. MDT:
- "Rolling" roll call (tentative), with states from Alabama to Iowa casting votes for president in alphabetical order. The voting is scheduled to be spread out over several nights, instead of one.
Several local school officials from around the nation discuss education reform, anti-drug efforts and literacy programs in their areas.
Between 8 and 9 p.m. MDT:
Texas first lady Laura Bush, who is a teacher, librarian and parent, will discuss the importance of literacy issues.
Former Joint Chiefs chairman Colin Powell will address community and volunteer service.
