Afterthoughts

  • Yes, I admit it. I miss little Elian. The Cuban boy, only 6 years old, embodied the American Dream. He arrived in this country in an inner-tube and left on a Lear jet.

In a way, without Elian the sunshine has gone out of our lives. Which is to say, it's back to Bush and Gore.

Reality hits home for the father Juan Miguel Gonzalez every time he picks up the phone in Cuba to order room service.

But, for Elian everything is back to normal. He has now settled into being just your average typical Cuban child who wants to defect.
